Yup, the best stories have them. Even a cliffhanger that leaves a lot of questions is an ending. It's an ending that says "a whole new world has just opened up and wouldn't you like to see the sequel but sorry you have to wait." The strongest ending for a story is both inevitable and surprising. The ending can be the shocking reverse of our expectations, but it is nevertheless the culmination of the events that came before it.
